South Bank abstract architectural photo shoot
Reflection on a Tesla ~ Philli Overton |
Another example of how carrying an Apple iPhone on you at all times can capture an abstract photo opportunity that you would otherwise walk past. Here the building is reflected on the hood of this red Tesla electric vehicle from 2 floors above H Block in the TAFE Queensland South Bank campus. The iconic logo happened to line up with the corner of the building's reflection, and thanks to the owner keeping their car so clean, the water beads added a nice contrast to the image.

Continuing on with exploring the structures of South Brisbane in search of abstract photo opportunities, the steps of the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on the corner of Glenelg and Merivale Streets provide a nice contrast of lines and freeform glass structures.

While the water feature on the Glenelg Street side allows the opportunity to practice framing and composing a shot using the water as a means of reflecting lines in all directions.

Back over on the TAFE Queensland South Bank campus between Glenelg and Ernest Streets, this view between buildings offers a challenge to shoot the opposing lines so that they are framed squarely to the edge of the image.

And good luck trying to work out which of the below lines are true to perspective when photographing this landscape art piece. The middle facing wall of the building in the background and the pavement lines at the base of the image are square to frame, but the haphazard lines of the abstract art installation make everything appear to be leaning one way or the other.

Abstract architectural opportunities are everywhere, and you might be surprised by what you find in your city.
